Below is an interview Political Analysis South Africa’s Stephanie Naidoo had with Rev. Albert Mbenga-Ukulangai, the Leader and Founder of Africa Bless Israel, on the recent proposal to downgrade the South African Embassy in Israel.
The ANC has proposed the downgrade of the SA Embassy in Israel. What is your response, and do you think the implications will be for the community, in religious and other aspects?
Israel has, for years, been at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation, and is the only thriving democracy in the Middle East. Unfortunately, since its rebirth, Israel has suffered unjustly at the hands of institutions that have sought her demise, with ongoing campaigns directed at the Jewish State such as BDS; thousands of Palestinians have been harmed by these efforts. Conclusive evidence shows that antisemitism is on the rise, globally; downgrading the Embassy will only further fan the flames and create an atmosphere of non-tolerance.
In your opinion, how could South Africa contribute meaningfully towards peace and peace brokering between Israel and Palestine?
Hostility, suppression of speech and ethnic discrimination will not foster dialogue and develop solutions to problems on religious, political, racial and cultural issues. The concept of tolerance and dialogue includes recognising each ones’ cultural and social backgrounds; we can always speak out within this framework in seeking a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict. We therefore do not recommend or endorse any Embassy downgrade.
Is there anything that you would like to add on behalf of Africa Bless Israel?
Many African nations were blessed when they had very good relations with Israel who assisted these countries develop in many substantial ways after their independence from Europe. Without understanding the spiritual connection, and even with a rich natural heritage, these same countries came under a curse when they broke ties with Israel, most of them during 1972 and 1973. Now, this is a time for the restoration of Africa. Africa shall arise and stand with Israel for her destiny. Africa chooses to bless Israel and be blessed as referred in Genesis 12 verse 3.
Israel’s enemies are working more aggressively than ever to turn Africa’s churches against Israel. If they are doing more, then we have to step up and do more. The world is growing increasingly hostile towards Israel. We must stand and ensure that Africa does not follow the example of the world’s lead, tomorrow.
