Postbank sets August 2026 deadline for SASSA card migration

Social grant recipients must replace Gold Cards with new Black Cards by the end of August 2026 to ensure continued access to funds.

Postbank announced on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, that South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grant recipients have until Monday, 31 August 2026, to switch to the new Postbank Black Card.

The state-owned entity issued the notice to beneficiaries currently using SASSA Gold Cards, stating that the replacement process is mandatory for those wishing to avoid service interruptions. To facilitate the migration, the bank established card replacement sites across various municipalities.

Recipients can locate active replacement centres by dialling a dedicated USSD code. Postbank stated that the transition is part of an initiative to modernise its payment systems and ensure beneficiaries remain on track with grant disbursements.

The bank included a security advisory as part of the announcement, noting that it will never request a customer’s personal identification number (PIN) or one-time password (OTP). Furthermore, the institution clarified that valid replacement cards must bear the Postbank branding to be recognised as official.
