MK Party in KwaZulu-Natal quells all talk of riots

On Sunday, 2 June 2024, the MK party moved to squash any talk of political unrest in KwaZulu-Natal.

Leaders of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party in KwaZulu Natal’s eThekwini Region released a video via social media platform, X, in which they addressed rumours and talk of riots and political unrest in the province.

The MK’s Regional Coordinator in eThekwini (Durban), Nhlanhla Shezi, said that despite their misgivings with how the recent national and provincial elections were conducted, he nonetheless urged his party members to calm down all talk of riotous actions, as the party has already documented its election-related concerns and registered them with the authorities.

Khumalo explained that “we know that there is already noise, let us not do things that we will later regret, and find that the situation gets out of hand. 29 other organisations, including MK have also reported disputes…things will be okay comrades. Let us defer to our Commander in Chief, together with his legal to team to manage matters.”
