MK Party back in court, Khumalo wants to be reinstated as leader

On Monday, 3 June 2024, the MK party returned, albeit for a separate matter, to the electoral court, to hear submissions by erstwhile MK leader, Jabulani Khumalo for reinstatement.

Jabulani Khumalo, the man who registered the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, and who was its leader until April 2024, is seeking reinstatement as leader, challenging the legitimacy of the party’s current leader, Jacob Zuma.

In his submission to the Electoral Court currently sitting at the Gauteng High Court, Khumalo, through his legal counsel contends that the letter sent to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in April 2024, indicating the leadership change in MK, was allegedly authored by Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla and not by Khumalo.

Khumalo’s counsel explains that “Ms Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla authored that letter without authorisation from my client (Jabulani Khumalo) …What my client seeks is to be reinstated as the party president, directing the IEC to reinstate him as the party president.”
