IEC releases 2021/22 party funding declarations reports

The IEC has released the 2021/22 first quarter Party Funding Disclosures Report, with the ANC, DA and ActionSA having received a total of over R30 million in donations.

On Thursday, 9 September 2021, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) publicly released the 2021/22 first quarter Party Funding Disclosures Report, in terms of the Political Party Funding Act 6 of 2018 and regulations. The IEC highlighted that the political parties’ funding regime makes it mandatory for all registered parties to disclose donations above R100 000 in a year.

The commission reported that the African National Congress (ANC), Democratic Alliance (DA) and ActionSA had declared receiving donations in the first quarter to the total of R30 008 841.74. The ANC and DA declared individual donations of R10 720 000 and R15 983 751.48, respectively, with ActionSA having received R3 305 090.26.

The Multi-Party Democracy Fund (MPDF) is reported to have only received a single contribution from Paul Malcolm Graham of R2 000. The IEC has therefore appealed to the public and corporate to support the sustainability of the MPDF.
