Zweli Mkhize has continued to warn South Africans of a possible resurgence of COVID-19, this time, enlisting an expert to draw parallels between this and past pandemics.
Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize took to Twitter on Friday, 2 October 2020, to continue cautioning against a possible second wave of COVID-19. The post reiterated that the pandemic is not over, despite the popular belief that the worst of the pandemic has passed.
The video Mkhize shared was of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19’s Professor Barry Schoub, who spoke about the lessons learnt from studying the patterns of the Spanish flu. He also compared it to the current pandemic.
Schoub suggested that due to the complacency that is setting in over the virus, the threat of a second wave remains high. He went on to claim that a second wave might be worse than the first, as seen in many countries that have experienced a resurgence of COVID-19.
