Zweli Mkhize took to Twitter to announce that he and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19 and have begun self-isolating, further warning of a possible resurgence of the virus.

Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize took to Twitter on Sunday, 18 October 2020, to announce that he and his wife, Dr May Mkhize have tested positive for COVID-19. Their status was confirmed after a doctor’s visit prompted by mild symptoms.

In his post, Mkhize explained, “I was feeling abnormally exhausted and as the day progressed, I started losing appetite. My wife had a cough, was dizzy and extremely exhausted. Given her symptoms, the doctors advised that she must be admitted for observation and rehydration.”

The only people that he claimed to have been in contact with recently were a few members of his family and department. They have all been advised to start isolating and test to verify their status. Moreover, Mkhize has used this to highlight the possibility of a second wave of the virus.
