Zweli Mkhize’s Twitter account is still active and providing COVID-19 updates, despite the minister being implicated by businessman, Edwin Sodi, in his State Capture testimony.
Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize’s Twitter account, on Wednesday, 30 September 2020, posted a COVID-19 update. The update encouraged the public to continue observing the necessary precautionary measures despite the move to Level 1. However, the activity of the account piqued the interest of social media users, considering that the minister was recently implicated in Edwin Sodi’s testimony at the State Capture Commission on Tuesday, 29 September 2020.
Mkhize was named as one of the sitting ministers who received a payment from Sodi. Moreover, Mkhize’s alleged payment was one of the highest payments by Sodi. During his testimonial, Sodi claimed that he paid the minister R6.5 million.
While Mkhize’s account might be active, there is no word from him on the allegations or him accepting the payment. Moreover, it is unclear whether the government will take remedial action against the minister, considering the reports of Sodi’s arrest by the Hawks.
