Vuyolwethu Zungula took to Twitter to stipulate the conditions under which the ATM believes work permits to foreign nationals should be awarded.
Leader of the African Transformation Movement (ATM), Vuyolwethu Zungula took to Twitter on Thursday, 8 April 2021, to stipulate the tenets his party believes should govern the awarding of work permits to foreign nationals. The post is part of his continued endorsement of the contentious Put South Africans First movement, which some believe has xenophobic undertones. This is something that Zungula has continually dismissed, claiming that putting the citizens of a country first appears to only be frowned upon in South Africa.
One of the visuals shared by Zungula stated, “No work permits for work we can do as South Africans.” This may be reference to the deployment of Cuban doctors during the height of the pandemic, which was based on the suggestion that the South African healthcare sector does not have the capacity to deal with the pandemic. However, it was later reported that some qualified doctors and healthcare workers were unemployed and at home at the time.
