Zuma’s recusal application to be heard by State Capture Commission
The State Capture Commission took to Twitter to confirm the upcoming recusal application by former president, Jacob Zuma, who wants Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo to recuse himself.
The State Capture Commission took to Twitter on Sunday, 15 November 2020, to share an update on the upcoming proceedings for Monday, 16 November 2020. The commission is set to hear an application by former president, Jacob Zuma to have Chairperson of the State Capture Commission, Judge Raymond Zondo recuse himself from the commission.
The commission was initially meant to be the first day that Zuma takes the stand, after having not met the first proposed dates due to medical reasons, according to his legal representatives. Zuma was set to answer questions on the various corruption allegations he is facing, as he has been implicated by various witnesses since his last appearance.
However, in what is considered as another stalling tactic, the former president has been working towards either not appearing before the commission or having Zondo recused. Zuma recently revealed that they share a familial connection, with Zondo subsequently admitting that he has a child with the sister of Zuma’s estranged wife, Thobeka Madiba. According to Zuma, Zondo is biased and should recuse himself.
