Premier Sihle Zikalala has welcomed the appointment of Her Majesty Queen Mantfombi Dlamini as the regent of the Zulu nation, ahead of the public announcement of King Goodwill Zwelithini’s successor.
The government took to Twitter on Friday, 26 March 2021, to confirm that the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Sihle Zikalala has welcomed the interim appointment of Her Majesty Queen Mantfombi Dlamini as the regent of the Zulu nation. The news of her appointment was publicised earlier in the week, which sparked much conversation amongst the public.
Her occupation of the position is only temporary, as the successor has yet to be announced. The mourning period of the late King Goodwill Zwelithini will reportedly last for three months, thereafter, a new leader of the Zulu nation is set to be announced.
Zikalala was quoted as saying, “We remind the people of KwaZulu-Natal that the Royal Family is still in mourning and we must afford them space as a family to mourn His Majesty during this sad time. We wish Her Majesty, the Zulu Royal Council and the entire Royal Family peace and comfort during this period.”
