The Brief

Zee World to premiere its first Afro-Indian drama series, Mehek

Zee World premieres the new drama series Mehek on Saturday, 6 April 2019, which is set to be the first Bollywood TV production to include African actors as part of its cast.

The upcoming series marks an important and evolutionary part of Zee World’s commitment to providing relevant, exciting and innovative content to its viewers. The incorporation of African elements into an Indian program appeals to the many Zee World viewers based in South Africa, who have been following the network since its introduction to DSTV in 2015.

According to an official press release published on Tuesday, 2 April 2019,  Ratna Sirah, the Business Head of Zee Entertainment Africa commented, “The decision to develop a Bollywood production with African actors stemmed from Zee World’s unequivocal success in Africa and the love showered by our audiences for the channel.  Zee World has enjoyed tremendous growth throughout the years and Mehek was the obvious next step.”

Mehek is set around an aspiring chef who is searching for a committed relationship. The story intertwines with a black family from Africa who have relocated to India in hopes of bettering their lives. The characters face various trials and tribulations on their individual journeys, whilst being entangled in unexpected romantic situations.

The one-of-a-kind drama series includes African actors Shonisani Masutha, Kamogelo Mogale, Ndaba Ka Ngwane and Nomava Kibare.

Mehek premieres on Saturday, 6 April 2019 and will air seven days a week at 21:00 pm on Zee World.
