Metro FM’s New Top 40 Countdown hailed Yanga Chief’s new single Utatakho as the number one single on Saturday, 6 April 2019, making it his first solo single to top the chart.
Metro FM’s New Top 40 Countdown takes place every Saturday between 9:00 and 13:00 and is hosted by radio personality, Kyeezi. The show counts down the most requested and in-demand singles, internationally and locally, which were recently released.
This past Saturday, Yanga Chief took the number one spot with his latest hip-hop single Utatakho, which was officially released on Friday, 5 April 2019.
The single beat out popular songs like Tellaman, Nasty C and Shekhinah’s collaborative single Whipped, Nasty C’s latest single SMA featuring singer Rowlene and Zakwe’s Roots featuring Stogie T and Jay Claude. Zakwe’s music video even featured on the show’s segment Rate The Video, which asks audiences to watch an artist’s music video and share their opinions on it.
The music video for Utatakho has garnered traction across selected music television channels, but has currently not been uploaded onto YouTube. Yanga Chief shared a one-minute video of the behind-the-scenes of the making of the single and its accompanying music video on YouTube.
The clip features footage of him in studio and travelling to different performances, and ends with various recording artists sharing footage of them listening and singing along to the song. The video features artists like JR., Kid X and AKA.
AKA is one of the artists who took to Twitter to congratulate the artist on his personal milestone and victory. Other artists that congratulated the artist on Twitter are rappers Solo and Kid X and vocalist Shekhinah.
