Published on

Fashion and food retailer, Woolworths South Africa, has committed to continuing with its food delivery service throughout the lockdown period, despite the high volume of orders.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, 24 March 2020, Woolworths assured customers that it would continue to offer delivery services throughout the lockdown period, which would allow customers to acquire essential grocery items without leaving their homes. The franchise stated, “Our online delivery is in high demand, understandably, and we’re working hard to open up more delivery times where we can. Online delivery of foods will certainly continue during the lockdown.”

Many customers have expressed relief at the online delivery service offered by the franchise, with a number of them claiming that they plan to utilize the service in order to remain indoors throughout the lockdown period. Woolworths delivery drivers have been instructed to leave items at the foot of the customer’s door, ensuring that no contact is made between the driver and the customer.

Woolworths also assured customers that it would sufficiently stocking its shelves throughout the 21 days, therefore, there is no need for panic buying. In an attempt to ensure that customers avoid panic buying, Woolworths has limited items to five per customer, to allow customers to have an equal chance at purchasing essential items.

Woolworths is yet to clarify other service offerings for the lockdown period, stating, “We’ve had many requests for clarity on the lockdown and what it means for Woolworths. We’re still co-ordinating with our many stakeholders and will keep you updated. When we know more, we’ll share it with you as soon as we can.”
