If you received an invitation to do an interview with Clara Marketing, you may want to think twice before you commit.
Looking for employment can be tricky, and it seems like applying to work at Clara Marketing may not be all that it is made out to be.
Why you should be weary of applying at Clara Marketing in South Africa
With South Africa’s unemployment rate hovering at just over 32% at the end of 2023, many people countrywide are looking for an opportunity to find a job.
However, this does not mean that every opportunity that comes knocking is necessarily as good as it seems.
Therefore, if you receive an SMS, or some other kind of communication inviting you to an interview at a company called Clara Marketing, there are a few key factors to consider before you decide whether or not you want to go to this interview.
Is Clara Marketing a legitimate company?
Clara Marketing is a registered company operating in South Africa, and the registration number is K2016/212662/07. However, this is pretty much where this company’s paper trail ends.
Since a company called Clara Marketing presumably specializes in marketing services, you would expect the company to maintain quite a lively digital footprint.
However, there is no website listed anywhere for a company called Clara Marketing (clara.co.za and claramarketing.co.za lead nowhere) and the only Clara Marketing listed on LinkedIn is based in Amsterdam (though, there is an unclaimed LinkedIn page for a Clara Marketing company based in Vereeniging).
A few other red flags to note
It is always best to be weary of job listings that invite you to apply out of the blue. And, unfortunately, there is just lot about the Clara Marketing invitation which seems out of sorts.
For a start, the contact number for Clara Marketing (0120232449) has been marked as a scam by multiple users on the Truecaller website.
And, while the 83 Woburn Avenue address listed does lead to a real building in Benoni, this building (the former location of Boston City Campus) is currently listed for sale on Property24.
Clara Marketing is also not listed under this address on Google Business.
How to protect yourself from employment scams
While it may seem odd that any posting work could be a scam, employment scams do run rampant in all parts of South Africa.
However, some of the best ways to protect yourself when you are engaging in a job-hunt, is to take note of the following:
- No legitimate employer will ask you to pay a fee before they conduct your interview
- Be careful when sharing your personal and financial information with potential employers
- Trust your instincts and do not attend an interview if you feel unsafe or uncertain
