All throughout his election campaign, President Donald Trump vowed to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The president kept his promise by officially opening the US embassy in Jerusalem yesterday, 14 May 2018.
These are the reasons for moving the embassy to Jerusalem:
- President Donald Trump stated that the reason behind the move was to, “advance the peace process and to work towards a lasting agreement.”
- US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman said the move was done to create “a better dynamic for peace,” and that “from a broader perspective, this helps stability.”
