Melania Trump underwent a minor preventative surgery on Monday and should be released from hospital by the end of the week.
First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump is currently at rest at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center outside Washington.
Mrs Trump underwent a kidney procedure on Monday, 14 May 2018, and is set to be released from hospital by the end of the week.
These are the details of Mrs Trump’s illness and procedure provided by the White House to the media:
- The White House called Mrs Trump’s illness a “benign kidney condition” but provided no further details to maintain her privacy about the matter.
- Some have speculated that Melania Trump is suffering from a type of noncancerous kidney tumour called an angiomyolipoma which may have caused problematic bleeding.
- The procedure performed is called an ‘arterial embolization’ whereby a special spongelike material is placed into an artery that supplies blood to the kidney. A thin tube catheter is inserted into a vessel in the leg and into the main vessel feeding the kidney. This blocks the blood supply that feeds the kidney and might be used to stop bleeding from a benign tumour.
