Where can I withdraw SASSA money?

Published on

SASSA grant beneficiaries are allowed to withdraw money from their SASSA card at any SASSA cashless ATM, alternatively, any ATM; as card fees have been waivered for beneficiaries.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), when it initially launched the card payout grant system, made it possible for beneficiaries to either withdraw from a South African Post Office (SAPO) or any ATM of the major banks locally. The ATM bank charges have been waivered for beneficiaries during the lockdown.

Then, in May 2020, SASSA promoted the launch of the cashless ATM for SASSA cardholders. The significance of the card was that it would allow beneficiaries to buy goods using their cards at selected retailers and stores.

Deputy Minister of Postal and Digital Communications Technologies, Pinky Kekana commented on the plan, stating, “The cashless ATM solution has multiple benefits for the society and will contribute in decongesting the current SASSA grants payment points. In light of government regulations to encourage social distancing to curb the spread of COVID-19, the additional 10 000 ATMs access points for social grants payments within the areas in which the beneficiaries reside is opportune.”

It is unclear whether the roll-out plan met its targets, or what happened to the cashless ATMs. Therefore, the most convenient way to withdraw money is through the use of an ATM or SAPO.
