What you did not know about the actress who plays Zanele on House of Zwide
Zanele has been a fan-favourite on House of Zwide ever since the show first premiered back in 2021. But there is much more to the actress that brings this intriguing character to life week after week, than meets the eye.
Londeka Mchunu, the actress who has portrayed Funani and Faith’s daughter for the last three seasons of House of Zwide, did not initially plan on becoming an actress.
But she has now firmly established herself as one of Mzansi’s brightest rising stars on and off the screen.
How Londeka Mchunu got her start
Some actors are born with a dream of entertaining fans on the stage and screen, but other actors find their passion for this art form much later in life.
And while she was still young when she got her big break, Mchunu seemingly falls into the latter category.
Mchunu was reportedly completing her studies at Varsity College when she was first discovered. As the story goes, Mchunu rather impulsively attended an audition hosted by Bomb Productions one day.
She impressed the producers so much during this audition that she landed the starring role of Snegugu Magwaza on the Mzansi Magic (and the Mzansi Wethu) show, Isithembiso.
She went on to star in the show for three seasons before moving on to the soap opera Isibaya, and eventually landing the role of Zanele on House of Zwide.
Londeka Mchunu’s famous connections
Outside of Mchunu’s newly-found House of Zwide TV-family, she grew up as one of ten children. She is not the only member of the Mchunu family who has found small-screen fame.
Londeka’s sister, Nelisa Mchunu, is also an actress who fans might recognise from shows like Isidingo, Uzalo, Isifiso and more.
When she is not spending time with her sister, Londeka moves in the same circles as many of Mzansi’s other famous stars, including Linda Mtoba, Happygal Ndlovu, Kwezi Ndlovu and more.
Londeka Mchunu is more than just an actress
Mchunu has certainly taken the South African soap opera world by storm over the last couple of years.
But in addition to being an on-screen talent, Mchunu was recently credited as one of the screenwriters for House of Zwide.
And it seems like this young actress may just be expanding her resume to include a few off-screen roles in the future.
