The sequel to the box office hit The Kandasamys is set to hit South African cinemas on Thursday, 18 April 2019. This time titled Kandasamys: The Wedding.
The highly-anticipated film picks up a few years later, where best friends Jennifer Kandasamy and Shanthi Naidoo are preparing for the matrimony of their children, Jodi and Prishen. A week before the wedding, emotions heighten and tensions are put at the forefront of the wedding festivities.
The story is set in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and showcases authentic drama that is familiar to the Indian community.
The movie stars popular local actors Jailoshini Naidoo, Maeshni Naicker, Mishqah Parthiephal and Madhushan Singh, Koobeshen Naidoo, Ugan Naidoo and Vashir Kemraj. The 2017 original movie was deemed the highest grossing South African film of the year.
Director and producer Jayan Moodley revealed the reason for producing a sequel in an interview with eNCA, stating ”We were constantly getting messages about what needs to be in the sequel and we finally succumbed!”
