UIF clarifies conditions for maternity claims

Published on

The UIF has taken to social media to clarify the conditions and requirements for maternity claims, further stipulating the required supporting documents for applications.

The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) took to Twitter on Wednesday, 21 October 2020, to share an infographic on the conditions and requirements for maternity claims. The post has been shared as the UIF has become fully functional again with the easing of lockdown restrictions.

According to the post, claims should be made prior to the birth of the child or within 12 months of the birth of the child. Another condition that was highlighted is that the claim should be made if the expectant mother is making less, due to taking maternity leave, and should have already been employed for a minimum of 13 weeks prior to making the claim.

The fund has made the application form available through a link in the post, which also stipulates all the required supporting documents for the application to be processed.
