UDM commends Zuma for handing himself over

Published on

Bantu Holomisa has commended former president, Jacob Zuma for handing himself over for arrest, and has called on all corrupt government officials to be very concerned.

On Thursday, 8 July 2021, the United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader, Bantu Holomisa released a media statement in response to former president, Jacob Zuma handing himself over for arrest on Wednesday, 7 July 2021. The party leader has commended Zuma for surrendering to the police without incident. Zuma reportedly handed himself over for arrest at the Estcourt Correctional Centre shortly before midnight.

The UDM noted that Zuma had voluntarily handed himself over to the police in Estcourt. Holomisa stated that just like any ordinary citizen, submitting oneself for justice is the right thing to do, and expressed that the UDM commends him for doing so and not playing into the theatrics.

Holomisa also touched on the former president’s alleged flawed tenure, noting that the alleged looting of state resources had become a massive free-for-all, with Zuma seemingly right at the front of the trough. Furthermore, Holomisa called the African National Congress (ANC) out for allegedly normalising institutionalised corruption, through the alleged actions of some of its senior leaders and with revelations of such reportedly being revealed at the Zondo Commission. Holomisa concluded by stating that those who have been corrupt in the government should be left shaken by Zuma’s arrest.
