UDM calls for suspension of uMzinyathi councillor for “buying” government water

Published on

The UDM has issued a statement calling for the suspension of an uMzinyathi councillor who claims that he “buys” water from the government, despite his community facing water issues.

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) issued a statement on Tuesday, 15 September 2020, calling for the suspension of an uMzinyathi councillor. According to the statement, the councillor claims that he “buys” water from the government, which is delivered to his home. As uMzinyathi reportedly faces water supply issues, the home-delivered water suggests corruption.

The councillor is said to have admitted to “buying” government water in an interview on Radio Khwezi. The UDM has called for remedial action to be taken by requesting invoices for the supposedly purchased water.

The party further requested the councillor’s suspension amid investigations, adding that should he be found guilty of abusing government resources, he should be subjected to full disciplinary measures.
