Two men have been arrested for the death of an 18-year-old student who was pushed to his death from the seventh floor in a block of flats in Pretoria.

Two suspects, aged 23 and 27, have been arrested for the murder of an 18-year-old student who was pushed to his death from the seventh floor in a block of flats in Arcadia, east of Pretoria. Police say this incident happened on Saturday afternoon, 16 March 2019, and the pair was apprehended around 12 noon on Sunday, 17 March 2019.

Sunnyside Police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela says eye witnesses informed the police that the pair was arguing with the deceased, shortly before they pushed him to his death from the seventh floor. He also confirmed that the student was rushed to hospital but died on the same day.

“According to an eyewitness account, the victim was involved in an argument with the suspects before he was pushed,” he said.

The two suspects have been charged with murder and are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court by the end of Tuesday, 19 March 2019.

Local police commander Brigadier Ramakamakama Kekana applauded the officers for the speedy arrests, thanking them for working tirelessly during the night and having the suspects arrested by 12 noon on Sunday, 17 March 2019.

“Informers and other ordinary members of the community must also be thanked for providing us information that let to both the identification and apprehension of the suspects,” he said.
