Twitter users not surprised by government’s lack of action over Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and Mduduzi Manana’s lunch

There is still no official word on the repercussions that Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams will face for her recent lunch with Mduduzi Manana; the lack of action did not surprise social media users.

On Tuesday, 7 April 2020, Mduduzi Manana and Minister of Communications, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams topped the trends list after an image of the two having lunch with Manana’s family at his residency was posted by him on social media. The lunch would have not been a problem if it were not for the 21-day national lockdown, which prohibits social gatherings and unnecessary travel. Following the since-deleted image resurfacing on Twitter, there were initial calls for action to be taken against the pair.

However, following the lacklustre response from the government, with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s office stating that it would have a talk with Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams, social media users were not surprised. Many users took to Twitter to draw comparisons between this incident and that of Minister Lindiwe Zulu’s alleged coronavirus-defiant video. Twitter users stated that Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams would most likely face the same consequences as Minister Zulu, which was none.
