Tourism unveils Destination South Africa’s Global Advocacy Programme

Published on

The Department of Tourism has unveiled its plans for Destination South Africa’s Global Advocacy Programme, in an effort to debunk misinformed narratives related to travel in South Africa.

Minister of Tourism, Lindiwe Sisulu issued a statement on Tuesday, 12 October 2021, in which she unveiled Destination South Africa’s Global Advocacy Programme. This comes as the country has been removed from the United Kingdom’s (UK) red list for the tourism sector to kick into gear again.

The programme is set to form part of the Tourism Sector Recovery Plan, recently taken on by national government and the tourism sector. It was initiated by the Department of Tourism, South African (SA) Tourism and the Tourism Business Council of South Africa, following the damaging narratives and misinformation reported globally about the country.

Sisulu stated, “We are going to embark on a strategic yet direct approach to our markets, to ensure that consumers, trade partners and global media are truthfully informed about the good aspects that come with travelling to South Africa in the COVID-19 environment.”
