The best time to visit the wonderful city of Johannesburg depends on many factors such as weather, crowd levels, and costs.
Many individuals are drawn to the city of Johannesburg in its warmest months, which are from December to January, but the high costs and crowd levels may deter some more seasoned travellers.
March to May
This time of the year brings very little tourists to the city of Johannesburg. This means cheaper flights, accommodation, and all related travel expenses.
On the downside, however, the temperature begins to drop at this time of year but it is not winter just yet. As long as you have a light jersey for those slightly chilly days, you will be fine.
June to August
Due to the cold weather, this is when the least amount of tourists will be visiting Johannesburg, making it less busy and much cheaper.
As it is winter, it can be very cold at this time of year. Although if you are travelling from a European country, the midly cold weather in this part of the Southern hemisphere may be very minor compared to the winter back home.
September to November
Spring season in Johannesburg is absolutely beautiful, making for warm weather that will not be too heavy on the sensitive skins of those from the colder countries. If you have some time, travelling to Pretoria and some parts of northern Johannesburg, to witness the famous Jacarandas bloom may be an added wonder to your time spent in Sunny South Africa.
The lodging rates are still reasonably low but not as much as during the winter months. The tourist crowds may also begin slowly appearing towards the end of November.
December to February
The incredibly warm weather during the summer months may be a nice change for those looking for a bit of sun, If you enjoy the hustle and bustle of large tourist crowds, this is the time for you.
This is peak tourist season with large crowds, high prices and what some may feel is unbearably hot weather-especially in the month of January.
