Suspects for Matwetwe star Sibusiso Khwinana’s murder identified

Gauteng Premier David Makhura announced that police have identified three suspects for the murder of actor Sibusiso Khwinana.

The lead actor of Matwetwe was murdered on Friday, 1 March 2019, after attending a screening of the movie at a cinema in Sterland Mall, Sunnyside, Pretoria.

Visiting the victim’s family on Thursday, 7 March 2019, Gauteng Premier David Makhura informed the late actor’s family that the suspects in his murder have been identified.

According to police, the late actor, who was with a friend at the time of the attack, was robbed outside the Sterland Mall in an attempted cellphone robbery. Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said that it is believed that the deceased actor was stabbed during a scuffle for his cellphone with the suspects.

“The deceased was allegedly stabbed with a sharp object on the upper body. He was certified dead on the scene,” Masondo said.

During the family visit, Makhura, who was accompanied by MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, told the family that the murder case of their son was treated as top priority. He offered condolences to the family and spoke on the importance of nurturing talent.

“We don’t want to send you to a police station. We want you to talk to the most senior police officers in the province, to see that this case is a priority case for us… Once these suspects are arrested people must see that crime does not pay, that’s my message to the police.” he said.

The three suspects are yet to be arrested.
