Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane regrets referee’s mistake, says it’s a sad situation

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane expressed his sadness and disappointment after Lebohang Maboe’s late goal was ruled out against Bloemfontein Celtic.

Sundowns thought it had got the game’s only goal in the 82nd minute, but Maboe’s goal was disallowed after Themba Zwane was flagged offside for an apparent infringement.

The Brazilians went on to draw 0-0 as it continued to struggle to close the gap on the Absa Premiership leaders.

“We tried, we controlled the game and we did well. It’s just sad because Lebo [Maboe] scored the goal. We won the game,” Mosimane told local media after the match.

Mosimane further pointed out that Zwane’s alleged offside was a false call.

“Mshishi [Zwane] is not interfering with play, he’s not even touching the ball. We won the game, it’s sad but what can we do.”

The victory would have placed Sundowns on sixth spot and four points behind the first-positioned Bidvest Wits.

Sundowns, nevertheless, still has two games in hand due to its champions league commitments earlier in the campaign.

The former Bafana Bafana coach additionally called out match officials for a previous mistake his team suffered in the MTN8.

“You know when we lost in the semi-finals of the MTN8 to Cape Town City scored with an offside goal.

“We are out of the MTN8 and they won the Cup. It’s true, it’s a fact.”

Sundowns next face log leaders Wits in a hugely enticing game on Sunday, 7 October 2018.
