John Steenhuisen has penned a statement suggesting that the recent ANC top six meeting with Zuma was further proof that the factional battles within the ruling party affect the country and its citizens most.
The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Federal Leader, John Steenhuisen took to Twitter on Tuesday, 9 March 2021, to share the statement he wrote on the African National Congress’ (ANC) top six’s meeting with former president, Jacob Zuma. Steenhuisen suggested that the meeting was further proof of the impact of the continued factional fight within the ruling party, however, Zuma appears to still be treated with kid gloves.
Steenhuisen’s reasoning is based on the statement shared by the ANC after the meeting, which stated that the party has stepped back to give Zuma the opportunity to handle his matters independently. Therefore, Steenhuisen believes that the party has, again, prioritised itself over the country and its citizens.
According to the statement, “This is now an opportunity for the reformers within the ANC to come out of hiding in the defence of constitutionalism, the rule of law and the people of South Africa. Unless those with the interests of the country at heart speak out and assert themselves, South Africa will hurtle back towards the Zuma era where the selfish interests of the ANC’s factional cliques will continue to ravage our country.”

It has become obvious that ANC factional battles continue to cost SA. They need to stop treating Zuma with kid gloves.
Now is the time for the reformers within the ANC to come out of hiding in defence of constitutionalism, the rule of law and the people.https://t.co/PSUFG7rxSS
