Steenhuisen addresses the nation

Published on

DA leader, John Steenhuisen addressed the nation today, speaking on the challenges that the country is facing with the third wave of COVID-19, in addition to welcoming the ruling on Zuma.

On Tuesday, 29 June 2021, the Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, John Steenhuisen addressed the nation under the hashtag #JohnSpeaksForMe. The opposition leader commenced his address by touching on the Jacob Zuma ConCourt ruling, stating that he feels that it was one of the most important rulings in the history of the country.

Most of Steenhuisen’s address was related to the country’s response to the pandemic. Steenhuisen noted that beating the virus means we need to be extremely honest and critical about the things that have and haven’t worked in the fight so far.

Steenhuisen pointed out the many mistakes made by the government, which have resulted in the slow vaccination rollout in the country. He also acknowledged that the country is amidst the third wave of infections, and that things have only gone from bad to worse; from the dwindling healthcare system and lack of vaccines, to the newly adjusted Level 4 lockdown regulations that have hurt some economic sectors.
