StatsSA has released its key findings report on manufacturing production and sales for July 2021, reporting a decrease in both manufacturing production and seasonally adjusted manufacturing sales.
Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) released its key findings report on manufacturing production and sales for July 2021 on Thursday, 9 September 2021. Manufacturing production is reported to have decreased by 4.1 percent in July 2021, compared to July 2020.
The largest negative contributors were petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic, decreasing by 23.2 percent and contributing -5.4 percentage points. Food and beverages decreased by 2.0 percent, contributing -0.6 of a percentage point. The largest positive contributors were furniture and other manufacturing with 41.2 percent, contributing 0.9 of a percentage point. Metal products, machinery, iron and steel, on the other hand, increased by 3.6 percent, contributing 0.7 of a percentage point and motor vehicles, transport equipment and parts with 6.1 percent, contributing 0.5 percent.
Seasonally adjusted manufacturing sales reportedly decreased by 13.1 percent in July 2021, compared to June 2021. This is said to have followed month-on-month changes of -0.6 percent in June 2021 and -1.1 percent in May 2021.
