StatsSA has revealed the performance results of the food and beverages industry, with a recorded increase of 93.4 percent in total generated income for June 2021.
Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) released results on the income generated by the food and beverages industry on Tuesday, 24 August 2021. StatsSA has gathered that, measured in constant 2015 prices, the total income generated by the industry increased by 93.4 percent in June 2021, compared to June 2020.
The largest annual growth was recorded for bar sales at a rate of 895.6 percent. For the month of June 2021, StatsSA confirmed that restaurants and coffee shops are said to have recorded the highest annual growth rate at 417.3 percent. In terms of food and beverages at constant 2015 prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise, the total income is said to have increased by 333.8 percent in the second quarter of 2021, compared to the second quarter of 2020.
The main contributors to this increase were restaurants and coffee shops with a growth rate of 1 384.3 percent, while contributing 196.2 percentage points. Furthermore, takeaway and fast-food outlets are seeing a rate of 213.9 percent growth and are contributing 122.3 percentage points. Seasonally adjusted income for the industry, however, decreased by 6.9 percent in June 2021, compared to May 2021.
