State Capture Commission continues to hear Zuma’s application for Zondo’s recusal

Published on

The State Capture Commission took to Twitter to announce that today will mark the second day of it hearing Jacob Zuma’s application for the recusal of Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.

The State Capture Commission took to Twitter on Monday, 16 November 2020, to announce the proceedings for Tuesday, 17 November 2020.

The post came after the first day of hearing from former president, Jacob Zuma, who has requested the recusal of Chairperson of the Commission, Judge Raymond Zondo.

The first day saw the address given by Zuma’s representative, Advocate Muzi Sikhakhane. Sikhakhane provided, in great detail, the reasons behind the call for Zondo’s recusal, citing a supposed bias by Zondo against Zuma. According to the former president and his legal representative, Zondo allegedly has a set perception of Zuma, therefore, making him prejudicial. However, Zondo maintained that he has not had any notable communication with Zuma in recent years, nor is he a friend of the former president.

Judge Zondo is expected to give his verdict on whether he will step down from presiding on the proceedings by the end of today’s hearing.
