The international community has congratulated South Africa on its just-ended national and provincial elections that saw the ruling African National Congress (ANC) winning.
In series of tweets on Sunday, 12 May 2019, the high office said, the world community commended the country on the elections that ended with the announcement of the results by Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Pretoria on Saturday, 11 May 2019.
British Prime Minister Theresa May congratulated President Cyril Ramaphosa on the ANC’s win as well.
“As I said in South Africa last year, by working together as friends and partners, we will secure a more prosperous future for all our people. I look forward to continuing that work with you,” she tweeted.
Australian High Commissioner to South Africa, Adam McCarthy, congratulated South Africa on the successful election.
“Congratulations to the people of South Africa on a successful election and good luck to democratic South Africa’s sixth Parliament,” the diplomat said.
The German Embassy in South Africa congratulated the host on the strength of her democracy.
“What a tremendous journey, 25 years after the end of apartheid, we are celebrating freedom and democracy,” the diplomatic post said.
Similar sentiments were shared by French Ambassador Christophe Farnaud, Norwegian Ambassador to South Africa Astrid Emilie Helle, and several African envoys as well.
