Published on

The Ministers of the Social Development Department and the Department of Health addressed the media on the importance of gathering proper data on SA’s people, as it relates to vaccinations.

The Department of Social Development, on Monday, 19 July 2021, informed the public that the Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, and the acting Minister of Health, Mmamoloko Kubayi, addressed the media at a vaccination site in Thokoza. Kubayi touched on the fact that the current riots have affected the vaccination target.

Kubayi stated that they were hoping that by now, the rollout would have reached 250 000 doses a day, but instead, has moved to 171 000 a day. The acting minister asked that the sites that are not overpopulated assist by taking in the 35 plus group, to avoid waiting for August.

Minister Zulu further stated that the department would be picking up data and that where it is low, the department would commit to encouraging people to get vaccinated. Zulu also stated that the entire social development sector was very cooperative when it came to getting registered for vaccination. She claimed that one of the most important things being learnt by the country from COVID-19 in general, is that we need a country with proper data about its people. She further stated that once that is sorted out, there will be no further struggles
