Sibanye-Stillwater has released a statement confirming the passing of the South African Gold Head of Operations, Shadwick Bessit, with William Osae set to take over from him in the interim.
Sibanye-Stillwater Limited released a statement on Tuesday, 19 January 2021, announcing the recent passing of its South African Gold Head of Operations, Shadwick Bessit. The statement revealed that Bessit passed on Saturday, 16 January 2021, however, it did not detail the cause of death. Besides serving as the Head of Operations, Bessit was also the company’s Vice President.
The statement read, “Shadwick Bessit was appointed as the Executive Vice President: SA Gold Operations in February 2019. Prior to this role, he served as Senior Vice President: Technical: Platinum and Gold, Senior Vice President: Kroondal and Rustenburg Operations and Senior Vice President: Underground Operations – Kloof and Driefontein. Shadwick joined Sibanye-Stillwater on its establishment in February 2013, after joining Gold Fields Limited in July 2012.”
Sibanye-Stillwater’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Neal Froneman also commented on his passing, and was quoted as saying, “It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Shadwick, who has been an example of a mindful leader. The Board and management have extended their sincere condolences to Shadwick’s family, friends and all his colleagues. We mourn the loss of a dear colleague, a leader and highly valued member of the senior leadership team.”
Moreover, the statement confirmed that William Osae, who currently serves as the Senior Vice President of the Technical Services for the South African Gold Operations, will fill Bessit’s position in the interim.
