Floyd Shivambu has asserted that Dali Mpofu representing Jacob Zuma is through his own autonomy as a senior counsel, and is not at the request of the EFF.
Deputy President of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Floyd Shivambu took to Twitter on Wednesday, 26 May 2021, to speak on the matter of Dali Mpofu representing Jacob Zuma. Mpofu is a proud Member of Parliament (MP) of the EFF. Therefore, when it was confirmed that he had joined the legal team representing the former president at the Pietermaritzburg High Court, the matter piqued the interest of the public.
The main point of interest was whether Mpofu’s representation of Zuma was at the request of the EFF, following the tea party between the EFF’s Commander-In-Chief, Julius Malema and Zuma. The tea party appeared to be a show of peace between the two. Therefore, when Mpofu was confirmed as part of the legal team, it begged the question whether the move was politically motivated.
Shivambu subsequently commented on the suggestion. He claimed that Mpofu had made the decision in his capacity as an advocate senior counsel. Moreover, he claimed that the decision had no bearing on his stance on the EFF, and vice versa.
See the post below.
It is @AdvDali_Mpofu’s right to legally represent whoever he chooses to represent. He’s represented CR17 factions, Thandi Modise, Supra Mahumapelo, Patricia De Lille, Bantu Holomisa’s UDM, Ace Magashule. He’s not doing so on behalf of the EFF. He’s doing it as an Advocate SC.
