According to the independent newspaper Mediafax, the massacre took place last week on the island, which is located off the coast of Mocimboa da Praia district.
The attackers seized seven men and beheaded them.
They kidnapped up to twenty other people and looted goods from informal stores on the island before returning to the mainland.
The province has seen an upsurge in armed attacks in recent months by militias suspected of being linked to the terrorist organisation, the Islamic State.
