SASSA has expressed its intention to address the high volume of Temporary Disability Grant beneficiaries in the Western Cape, which is said to be the highest in the country.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) took to Twitter on Wednesday, 28 April 2021, to announce that it is set to look into the cause of the Western Cape being the province with the highest number of Temporary Disability Grant beneficiaries. The announcement was made by SASSA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Totsie Memela.
Memela was one of the social development representatives who attended the launch of the online application portal. The online portal is an attempt to reduce the long queues that have become the norm at the department’s regional offices.
The purpose of the planned probe is to find long-lasting solutions for the current beneficiaries. This is particularly important because the grant is temporary and should not be viewed as a long-term solution or source of income.
