SASSA stipulates February payment dates
SASSA has released a series of tweets announcing the grant payment dates for February 2021, but has yet to address the matter of the suspended Temporary Disability Grant.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) took to Twitter on Sunday, 17 January 2021, to share a series of tweets announcing the grant payments dates for the month of February. The post is in line with the agency’s monthly routine of alerting beneficiaries of the payout dates for the various grants it offers.
However, a matter that the department has still not touched on is that of the suspended Temporary Disability Grant. This past week, SASSA was in the headlines for the abrupt suspension of the grant without forewarning. Again, SASSA faced backlash when it was reported that law enforcement used firehoses against beneficiaries that had slept outside SASSA offices and failed to adhere to social distance from each other. All these matters have yet to be formally addressed by the agency.
However, the recent tweets did reveal that on Wednesday, 3 February 2021, the grants for the elderly and the disabled will be available. Thereafter, the children, dependency and social grants will be made available from Friday, 5 February 2021. It is always advisable to avoid cashing out on the day of the funds’ availability, as a way to avoid possibly contracting COVID-19 because of the large numbers that often rush to do so.
