SAPS surpasses 20 000 mark in vaccination drive

The SAPS has announced that the department have surpassed the 20 000 mark in its vaccination rollout, but also noted the delays in KZN due to civil unrest.

The South African Police Service (SAPS), on Thursday, 15 July 2021, issued a statement confirming that the department has surpassed the 20 000 mark in its vaccination drive. The department stated that interventions are in progress to ensure the urgent vaccination of officers deployed to quell the unrest in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Gauteng.

The SAPS further stated that the vaccination rollout in KZN has yet to kick-off, as plans were interrupted by the civil unrest in the province. It also expressed gratitude to the members in KZN for exercising patience and understanding during this period.

The SAPS stated that to date, 23 375 doses of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine have been administered to officers and support personnel in eight provinces and at the national head office. The department also noted that since the beginning of the pandemic, 34 021 officers have contracted the virus.
