SAPS makes arrests in Kraaifontien police murder case

Published on

The government has released a statement expressing the elation of Minister Bheki Cele regarding the progress and arrests made in the Kraaifontein police murder case.

The government took to Twitter on Friday, 5 March 2021, to circulate a statement announcing the nine arrests made by the South African Police Services (SAPS) in the case of the two slain SAPS officials from Kraaifontein. The statement comes on the back of Minister of Police, Bheki Cele’s previous statement asserting that the SAPS will actively seek justice for the families of the two slain police officers.

In addition to the nine new arrests, the SAPS also announced the discovery of new information. The statement read, “On Thursday night, an intelligence-led police operation resulted in the arrest of nine suspects for the possession of unlicensed firearms in Khayelitsha.” Additionally, “Two of the firearms found at the scene were positively identified to belong to the slain police members.”

This means that the SAPS has identified suspects in the murders of Constable Mninawa Breakfast and Sergeant Mnakwazo Welcome Mdoko.
