SAPS confirms recruitment programme is still on hold

Published on

The SAPS has released a statement confirming that its recruitment and training programme is still on hold, with the indefinite halt being attributed to the pandemic.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) took to Twitter on Wednesday, 10 March 2021, to endorse a statement circulated by the state, confirming the indefinite halt of its recruitment and training programme. Previously, the SAPS had attributed the halt to the pandemic, specifically when the country was experiencing the second wave and the re-introduction of stricter regulations.

With the country now being under Alert Level 1, it was believed that the recruitment programme would be reinstated. However, according to SAPS Spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, they have opted to continue the indefinite halt. The statement suggested that it would not be wise to reinstate the programme currently.

Mathe was quoted as saying, “While the Service is exploring and relooking at a number of ways of ensuring that service delivery and the capacitation of staffing levels continues at all service points, members of the public are therefore warned against several hoax messages containing job listing adverts.”
