The National Director of SAJBD, Wendy Kahn, says Jews will not be intimidated following Africa 4 Palestine’s attempt to boycott some South African Jewish business in the building materials sector.
On Wednesday, 9 June 2021, National Director of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD), Wendy Kahn, issued a statement on the organisation’s Facebook page. This was in response to Muhammed Desai, Director of Africa 4 Palestine, who expressed his delight at some businesses in the building materials industry allegedly cutting ties with Jewish-owned businesses.
Kahn slammed what she considers Desai’s alarming celebration of the boycotting of Jewish businesses for relating with or showing support for Israel. Khan stated, “The delight he takes in destroying Jewish businesses is gut-wrenching because of the fragile state of South Africa’s economy.”
Kahn added that Desai is looking to intimidate the South African Jewish community. Kahn also explained that the South African Constitution affords everyone the right to freedom of religion, conscience, thought, belief and opinion, and that nothing excludes Jews or people who have a connection to Israel from that right.
