SADTU suggests Brackenfell High School be subjected to “intense diversity program”

Published on

SADTU appears to have been aware of the controversial exclusionary matric dance that was hosted at Brackenfell High School, which has led to it proposing a diversity program for the school.

The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) took to Twitter on Tuesday, 10 November 2020, to add its voice to the Brackenfell High School matter. The posts from the union suggest that it was aware of the organising of the exclusionary matric dance and heavily condemned it.

According to the union, “Neither (Provincial Minister for Education in the Western Cape) Debbie Schafer, (the Western Cape Education Department) WCED nor the school heeded this caution. SADTU demanded the ball organisers apologise to pupils who were excluded from attending.”

The union then called on the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to investigate the matter. It further suggested that the high school undergo an “intense diversity program,” which will hopefully remedy the alleged racial tension in the high school.
