SABC commits to continuous offering of services

Published on

The SABC is currently implementing its turnaround strategy, and has announced that despite the demanding process, it will continue to offer its services with minimal disruptions.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) took to Twitter on Friday, 22 January 2021, to quell the fears of customers. The public broadcaster announced that it is currently in the process of implementing its turnaround strategy, which is being introduced to improve its financial standing.

Part of the turnaround strategy involves implementing the SABC’s Section 189 resolution, which will result in an estimated 300 redundant employees being retrenched. The broadcaster has yet to formally disclose which of the positions have been deemed redundant, however, the statement affirmed that the losses will not result in disrupted television viewing or disruptions to its other services.

According to the post, “The SABC would like to assure the public that it has contingency plans in place to ensure the continuous running of SABC services, as millions of South Africans depend on the public broadcaster daily for news and information.”
