The SABC and Department of Basic Education have announced their collaborative attempt to provide educational content for South African students during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The SABC released a statement today, 8 April 2020, announcing the launch of the new multimedia learner support initiative, in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education. The initiative has been launched as a way to provide educational support to students who have been impacted by the national lockdown, which was implemented to curb the spread of COVID-19. The programme begins its schedule on Thursday, 9 April 2020, and will be broadcast across three SABC TV channels and 13 radio stations. Thereafter, all programmes will be uploaded onto YouTube, which will assist students who learn best from repetition.

The support programmes will be aimed at students in grade 10, 11 and 12, with foundation phase learning being broadcast in the morning. The initiative is being launched ahead of the June examinations, in order to allow student to use the materials to ensure they are adequately prepared.
