SAB showcases impact of complete alcohol ban

Published on

South African Breweries took to Twitter to showcase the impact of the prolonged total alcohol ban on small businesses by profiling the owner of a tavern.

South African Breweries (SAB) took to Twitter on Monday, 25 January 2021, to show how the extended total alcohol ban has affected not only the company, but other alcohol-related businesses as well. SAB shared a video profiling the owner of a tavern.

The post was captioned, “Remember Mam’ Joyce? She’s one of millions of people who are affected by the decision to stop alcohol trade. We paid her [a] visit to see how she’s coping now that she can’t run her tavern business. Press play to see what she had to say.”

The video follows reports that SAB has already started letting go of staffers, due to financial constraints caused by the total alcohol ban. The extension of the total alcohol ban can only be lifted and take effect from Monday, 15 February 2021, following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s lockdown update, which is expected to take place days before the aforementioned date.
