Reverend Dr Nkomfa passes away

A statement published on Wednesday afternoon has confirmed the passing of popular preacher, Reverend Dr Nkomfa, following a short period of illness.

Social media was abuzz with the rumours of the passing of Reverend Dr Nkomfa Deon Mkabile on Wednesday afternoon, 17 April 2019. It wasn’t until a statement was posted on Dr Nkomfa’s Facebook page that the news settled in. The statement did not divulge much information, except for confirming his passing.

“It is announced with sadness that Dr Nkomfa Mkabile has passed away this afternoon at around 17h00, after a short illness. His wife, the Reverend Unathi Mkabile, close family and friends were at his bedside at the end. Nkomfa was a larger than life individual, a passionate preacher, the founder of the Bethel International Ministries, and award-winning Gospel artist and a committed husband, father and friend.

“He has been active in politics, where he was known for principled leadership and representation until he took ill a few days ago. His presence, like his devout breaking out in magnificent song in a moment, at the right time, will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege and honour of knowing him,” the statement read.

Those who followed his ministry would agree that Rev Nkomfa was all that, and more. His preaching videos, in which he shared the Word, gained much traction on social media. Messages of condolences have been pouring in since the country learned of the Reverend’s passing. Facebook user Noluvuyo Mazangele said, “Aaah Rev Nkomfa. Gone too soon but we know the Heaven needed you. You have paved the way for Jesus Christ as he is also about to die. May God and Angels welcome your soul with love and warmth. We will forever miss you. RIP Dr Nkomfa.”

Nkomfa’s passing comes just two days before Good Friday, a day observed by Christians as the biblical death of Jesus after fasting for 40 days and 40 nights. In the last video that Nkomfa shared, just last week, he was urging the Christian community to be steadfast in this fasting and mourning period.

Details of his memorial and burial services are yet to be announced.
